KATHMANDU, Oct 8: As the International Day of the Girl Child is approaching, Plan International, Save the Children, Child Workers in Nepal (CWIN), United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) along with Kasthamandap Art Studio organized a street art program on Sunday.

The street art which was done on the wall on the west side of Pulchowk Engineering College emphasized on child marriage.[break]

Seven adolescent artists from Kasthamandap Art Studio and children from CWIN volunteered for the program.

“We have other plans for the International Day of the Girl Child following the street art, like road show, regional media mobilization and adolescent day tour,” said Sukirty Poudel of Max Media who coordinated the program.

“Through art, we’ve tried to portray that education is more important for children and child marriage should be put to an end. The only way to secure a child’s future is by providing him/her with quality education,” said Sachi Tamrakar, 16, a volunteer from Kasthmandap Art Studio for the street art event.
