SPORTS BRIEFS: NTV, Image into semis

KATHMANDU, July 15: Defending champion Image Channel on Sunday advanced to the semifinals of the Fifth Decorative Media Cup Football Tournament. In the quarterfinal match played at Buddhi Bikas Khel Mandal, Image Channel defeated Photo Journalist Club in sudden death. After the regular time ended in 3-3 draw, the match was taken to spot kick.



Both the teams converted four penalties each. In sudden death, Ravi Maharjan missed the penalty for PJ Club while Suresh Maharjan´s goal gave Image Channel victory. [break]In another quarterfinal, Nepal Television (NTV) overcame Nepal-1 Television 4-2. Prajwol Shakya completed hat-trick while Ram Kumar Thapa scored a goal for NTV. Subodh Bagale and Nikesh Khadka scored a goal each for Nepal 1. Image Channel faces Terai Television in semifinal while Nepal Television meets Gorkhapatra.


Pathfinder advances into final round

KATHMANDU: Pathfinder School secured place for the final round of Coca Cola Cup Inter School Boy´s Tournament from Central Region on Sunday. Pathfinder toiled hard to register a 4-2 tie breaker win over Satya Sai in the final of group B following 2-2 draw in the regulation time. Sudhakar Neupane and Christopher Rai scored one each for Pathfinder in the 31st and 58th minute while Sandesh Khadka and Abhiyan Ghimire achieved target for Satya Sai in the 41st and 68th minute respectively. In other matches, Namuna Boarding School, Gyanodaya, Rosebud and Wits Academy emerged victorious.
