Sangina Baidya felicitated
KATHMANDU: Trishuli-Kathmandu Samaj honored former taekwondo player and Olympian Sangina Baidya with cash prize on Saturday in the capital. Baidhya, the first Nepali player to make it to finals of Olympics through qualifiers was given Rs 20,000 and letter of appreciation by cultural expert Satya Mohan Joshi. Baidya is the gold medalist of 1996 Asian Taekwondo Championship held in Australia. She had also won taekwondo gold in the eighth and ninth edition of South Asian Games (SAG).
Twin titles for Pennwood
KATHMANDU: Both the boy´s and girl´s team of Pennwood took home the titles of Third PABSON Mid-western Regional Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Saturday. Pennwood edged past Deneb in the finals of both categories. Penwood registered comfortable 41-24 win in boy´s final and thumped 32-2 in the girl´s final. Furba Tamang netted highest 16 points in boys category and Priya Lama netted 17 points in girl´s category for the champion. Suryodaya finished third in boy´s and Kathmandu English School in girl´s category.
Wilson wins basketball title
KATHMANDU: Wilson Academy clinched the title of the First Radiant Inter-school Boy´s Basketball Tournament on Saturday in the capital. Wilson toiled hard to beat RIBS 66-60 in the match held at host Radiant´s court in Sitapaila. Amar Singh who contributed highest18 points for the winning team was declared the most valuable player. Ratan Bista of RIBS won the highest scorer award.
Thapa wins triathlon gold
KATHMANDU: Tikaram Thapa won gold medal in the First Open Triathlon Championship held in the capital on Saturday. Thapa clocked 1 hour 32 minutes 26 seconds in total to secure first position. Chandra Thapa Magar (1 hour 34 minutes 48 seconds) and Australian Luke Davis (1 hour 35 minutes 51 seconds) to finish in second and third positions respectively. The only one female participant Parsiya Manandhar took 2 hours 37 minutes and 13 seconds to complete the distance. The participants had to swim 750 meters, 20 km cycling and 5 km race to finish the triathlon. The top three players were given Rs 5,000 Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively along with medals and certificates. Sushil Ghimire, the secretary of Ministry for Youth and Sports distributed prizes to the winners.
Women´s national cricket in Pokhara
KATHMANDU: Women´s National Cricket Tournament will be held in Pokhara from Wednesday. This is the first time that women´s cricket will be held outside Kathmandu. Altogether nine teams including Armed Police Force (APF) team will be competing for the first time in the tournament entitled Wai Wai Women´s National Cricket Tournament. Along with defending champion Nepalgunj (region no 5), APF, Biratnagar (region no 1), Pokhara (region no 8) and Janakpur (region no 7) are placed in group B. Group A consist of Birgunj (region no 2), Baitadi (region no 6), Bhairahawa (region no 4) and Kathmandu (region no 3).
