KATHMANDU, Jan 1: After a hiatus of two weeks, the Special Committee for integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants is finally holding its meeting on Sunday.

The agendas of the meeting are yet to be known. [break]

The prime minister´s office has stated that the meeting on Sunday will concentrate mainly on the ways to speed up the integration and rehabilitation of Maoist combatants. “The meeting will discuss how to take the integration and rehabilitation process forward,” said Bishwadip Pandey, an aide to Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai.

The integration process hasn´t moved ahead after the completion of categorization of the Maoist combatants due to internal disputes within the Maoist party.

The PLA commanders have opposed Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal´s proposal to let those opting for voluntary retirement go home with the promised cash incentives.

They have argued that the process should not be taken forward before clearing the confusions around issues such as rank harmonization, age, education, among other things.
