RUKUM, Dec 21: Two primary schools in Pipal VDC of Rukum district have been displaced following the fall in the mercury.

The Janata Primary School of Kalakharka and a primary school in Melgairi of the VDC were shifted to Lamachaur and Rukhabang, respectively.[break]

Janata Primary School has rented a private house in Lamachaur for running classes while the other school is running classes under open sky in Rukhabang.

The schools were shifted as the students have gone with their parents to the foothills, said Una Bahadur Nath of Melgairi Primary School. There are 108 students in both schools, added Nath.

"We have kept students in five corners in the open sky to continue the classes," said Aribhan KC, Principal of the school. It is not possible to go back to the school building until the end of the winter season, added KC.

Meanwhile, all schools in five VDCs in the northern part of Mugu district in far north-west of the country have been closed since a week due to increasing cold. All the 15 schools in the region have been closed as it has become difficult to run classes due to the biting cold, it is said.

Similarly, National Private and Boarding Schools´ Association of Nepal (NPABSAN) has ordered all private schools in Kanchanpur district, far-west of the country, closed for three days due to the increasing cold.
