The main ceremony committee, led by Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Badriprasad Pandey, held its first meeting on Thursday and finalized plans for the week-long celebration.

On the occasion, Minister Pandey highlighted Sagarmatha's significance as more than just the world's highest peak. He said, "Sagarmatha has put Nepal on the global map. Everest is a symbol, but we must also represent other Himalayan peaks. We need to move forward by honoring both the climbers and the mountains."
The meeting also formed a recommendation committee, headed by Director General of the Department of Tourism Dr Narayan Regmi, to honor record-holding Everest climbers. The committee decided to ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate with Nepali embassies, consulates, tourism promoters, and diplomatic missions abroad to publicize the event internationally.
To ensure a grand celebration, the committee assigned the implementation team to make necessary decisions in collaboration with relevant organizations, experts, and the private sector.
Nepal marks International Sagarmatha Day every year on May 29, commemorating the historic 1953 ascent of Mount Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary.
The 17-member organizing committee includes representatives from government agencies, tourism entrepreneurs, the Nepal Tourism Board, the Hotel Association of Nepal, the Everest Summiteers Association, the Himalayan Rescue Association Nepal, the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal, and the Ministry of Tourism, Forests, and Environment of Koshi Province.
