KATHMANDU, Feb 22: Dhangadhi Cricket Academy (DCA) on Sunday signed a sponsor agreement worth Rs 1 million with Sagarmatha Cement, a product of Ghorahi Cement Industry, for the Third Dhangadhi Cricket League scheduled to be held in Dhangadhi from March 2 to 26.

DCA President Subash Shahi and Ghorahi Cement's Director Aditya Shanghai signed the sponsor deal during a function organized in Kathmandu.

Altogether five teams, named after the places of Dhangadhi and also owned by local businessmen, are participating in the event.

Santoshi Tol will be led by Raju Rijal, Hasanpur will be captained by Bikram Thangunna, Chauraha will be led by Padam KC, Attariya will be under the captainship of Bhuwan KC and Campus Road will be led by Roman Bom.

The players, mostly locals, were selected through auction held by the end of December last year.

The owners were involved in the bidding of players, who had registered themselves for the auction by paying Rs 1,000. Nepal's U-19 national team skipper Raju Rijal was sold for the highest price of Rs 40,000, while Binod Bhandari and Lalit Singh Bhandari earned Rs 36,000 each from their clubs for the league.

During the function, DCA president Shahi said that the event was started with support from locals and local sponsors.

"I always think of doing something new in cricket and there are many things to be done in the region for the game," he said.

Similarly, Ghorahi Cement's director Shanghai said that the organization is always supportive for the development of cricket in the country.

"We want to promote the game in the country so we sponsored the event," he said.

While, the South Asian Games record holder former taekwondo player Deepak Bista said that the tournament will be a platform for new talents from the region.

Meanwhile, Nepali national cricket team skipper Paras Khadka said that Subash Shahi and the DCA are setting examples in the country by organizing cricketing events.

He also said such events should be organized frequently to engage the players throughout the year that will also be beneficial for the national team.
