Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, opened currency trading on Sunday with value of US dollar fixed at Rs 108.54.Rupee gained 8 paisa against US dollar on Monday to settle at 108.46. Though rupee lost 10 paisa on Tuesday to close at 108.52 against the greenback, it strengthened by 4 paisa to settle at 108.52 against US dollar on Wednesday. Rupee lost 72 paisa on Thursday to slump to record low of 109.24 against US dollar on Thursday.
According to Reuters, the Indian currency fell to more than two-year low on Wednesday, inching closer to a record low of 68.85 set in August 2013, as a continued fall in global oil prices raised concerns about the global economy. "Rupee fell to 68 per dollar, its weakest level since September 4, 2013, but pulled back as state-owned banks were spotted selling dollars likely on behalf of the Reserve Bank of India."
Nepali rupee, however, gained 23 paisa against the greenback on Friday to close the week's trading at 109.01 as the Indian rupee gained its strength back.
Meanwhile, rupee lost 38 paisa against euro but gained Rs 1.19 against Pound Sterling over the week. A euro was exchanged at Rs 118.81 on Friday, while the Pound Sterling was valued Rs 154.64.
BULLION
Gold price increased by Rs 500 per tola this week.
Trading opened on Sunday opened with price of gold fixed at Rs 49,900 per tola. Though gold price remained unchanged until Tuesday, it went up by Rs 250 per tola on Wednesday. Similarly, the price went up by another Rs 350 per tola on Thursday to Rs 50,500. The price, however, fell by Rs 100 per tola on Friday -- the last trading day of the week -- to close at Rs 50,400.
However, price of silver remained unchanged this week. On Friday, silver was traded at Rs 680 per tola.
