Rs 30m collected from campaign against drunk drive

KATHMANDU, July 3: Revenue of around Rs.30 million has been collected till mid-June of the current fiscal year after the Division of Metropolitan Traffic Police launched a campaign against drunk- drive.



According to the Division, a total of Rs.1.91 million revenue was collected from mid-November to mid-January, Rs.2.88 million in January/February, Rs. 5.99 million in February /March, Rs. 6.56 million in March/April, Rs. 5.41 million in April/May, Rs. 5.82 million in May/June and Rs. 5.82 million revenue from the campaign. Traffic police under the Campaign had taken action against 565 people in November/December, 1601 in December/January, 3,717 in January/February, 7,281 in February/March, 7,070 in March/April, 6,720 in April/May and 6,455 in May/June.



It is said that cases of road accidents have decreased and revenue collection has increased after the beginning of the Campaign.



A total of 33,409 people had faced action under the Campaign against the drunk drive, said the Division. The traffic police fines Rs. 1,000 if they find a case of drunk-drive.
