MoHA Spokesperson Laxmi Prasad Dhakal informed Republica that private vehicles with either odd or even number plates can operate. However, the system will be enforced for public vehicles, Dhakal said.
Citing shortage of petroleum products, the government had enforced an ´odd-even license plate system´ across the country from Sunday.
Under the system vehicles are allowed to ply on the roads on alternating days, based on whether the last digit in their number plate is an even or odd number. Vehicles with even number plate are allowed to ply on even date and those with odd number plate on odd date.
Dhakal added Traffic Police won't take any action on private vehicles not obliging to the system.
MoHA on Wednesday announced that private vehicles, those with red license plates, won't receive any fuel supply for three days starting Thursday.
However, private vehicles of emergency use, like those of hospitals and media outlets, will get fuel as per the prescribed quota through selected institutional fuel stations.
Private vehicles owned by even educational institutions won't be provided any fuel for the next three days, according to MoHA.
MoHA took the decision after holding consultation with Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (MoPIT) and Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).
