KATHMANDU, Jan 2: Nepal Police on Friday arrested three dozen human rights activists who were demonstrating in front of the Indian Embassy at Lainchaur, Kathmandu calling for an end to the Indian blockade at the earliest.
Police arrest 27 human rights activists
The rights activists associated to Human Rights and Peace Society Nepal were staging a protest carrying placards with message such as "Blockade is a violation of human rights, Modi ji end blockade," "Respect Nepal's sovereignty," and "Blockade is crime against humanity." According to the Society, the protest was a continuation of a 10-day long campaign against the economic embargo imposed on Nepal since the last couple of months. Among those detained by the police were Krishna Pahadi, Gangadhar Adhikari, Arjun Parajuli, Renuka Poudel, Homekanta Chaulagain, Krishna Kadel. The activists were arrested soon after they began their
protest.
The society has been conducting various programs on the occasion of 67th World Human Rights Day. The society had also collected signatures from commoner against the India-imposed border blockade. The arrested were kept at Ranibari.
