Speaking at an interaction on ´Proposed Media Policy and Stakeholders´ responsibility´ organised by Kathmandu Chapter of Nepal Press Chautari Sunday, they said the policy that has been proposed without following due process and without serious discussions with the stakeholders concerned by the MoIC in collaboration with the donor agencies is not acceptable to them.[break]
President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Shiva Gaule criticized the policy arguing that firstly it was introduced without having discussion with the stakeholders concerned and secondly serious issues related to the media have been presented in a light manner in the policy.
He also said the Ministry has not discussed the proposed policy with the FNJ.
Chairman of Nepal Press Chautari Gagan Bista said it was not appropriate to give donor agencies to prepare the media policy without discussing with the stakeholders.
Similarly, Chairman of the Revolutionary Journalists´ Association Maheshwor Dahal said bringing the media policy without consulting the media was an unusual act, adding a question has been raised over the public´s rights to information when the Ministry of Information proposed the media policy through the wrong process.
Kiran Pokhrel, Chairman of Nepal Press Union admitted that the media policy that does not favor the Nepali media is not necessary and also criticized the process adopted to develop it.
Chairman of the TV Editors´ Association, Mahendra Bista and Community Radio Broadcasting Association´s, Chairman Min Bahadur Shahi stated that the proposed media policy would not support the people´s right to information and press freedom.
