National Planning Commission (NPC) has projected that poverty will fall below 5 percent in the next one-and-a-half decades. Though Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) has proposed to eliminate severe poverty by 2030, eliminating poverty is almost impossible. Thus Nepal has proposed to bring down poverty to 5 percent in the next 15 years from existing 23.8 percent. Ending absolute poverty in Nepal by 2030 is an ambitious target, particularly with the reversals caused by the recent devastating earthquakes. But the government has, under SDG, committed to bring poverty down.
