Police arrest traders for overcharging customers for tarps

KATHMANDU, May 17: Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) Kathmandu has arrested three traders on the charge of overcharging customers for tarpaulins.

During inspection carried out on Sunday, police found traders overcharging customers by as much as Rs 1,200 per tarpaulin.

Issuing a press release, MPCD said Keshav Shrestha and Amit Shrestha of Kalimati were arrested after they were found selling tarpaulins costing Rs 2,500 and Rs 1,600 for Rs 3,700 and those costing Rs 1,00 and Rs 1,800 for Rs 2,500. Similarly, Mohan Kumar Shrestha of Chabahil was arrested after he was found selling tarpaulin costing Rs 1,300 for as high as Rs 2,000 per piece.According to the release, the unscrupulous traders had even offered bribe to plain-cloth policemen who had reached their shops for inspection.

MPCD also seized tarpaulins from these traders.

"Appropriate action will be taken against these unscrupulous traders, who are found overcharging customers at the time of national crisis, as per the existing laws," the release added.
