"If anyone is planning to bypass the UML, they are daydreaming," Nepal said while addressing a gathering organized by the party´s Kathmandu valley committee on Thursday. "Our party will never accept any inappropriate idea nor will it be dragged by any other political forces."
Stating that his party had taken independent decisions on crucial political issues in the past, Nepal said his party had never been a follower but had of its own volition set the agenda for embracing the federal system.
Former Prime Minister Nepal, who is believed to be a key player in Nepali politics, suggested leaders from the ruling UCPN (Maoist) and main opposition NC not to indulge in behind-the-curtain politics, which he said would lead the country nowhere.
Leaders present at the gathering said Nepal was hinting at UCPN (Maoist) Chariman Pushpa Kamal Dahal´s attempt to garner support of some NC leaders for CA revival by promising them the prime ministerial berth. While NC President Sushil Koirala and top UML leaders are against Dahal´s proposal to revive the CA, other two NC leaders -- former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Ram Chandra Paudel - are likely to support Maoist chairman´s idea.
UML Spokesman Pradeep Gyawali said, "Some Maoist and NC leaders have said in public that a deal between Maoist and NC was enough to form a ruling coalition," Gyawali told Republica.
In recent years, a section of NC leaders have lobbied for Maoist-NC coalition. Also, top Maoist leaders including Dahal have announced in public that the Maoist and NC were the two major political forces and their relations set the country´s political course.
Shekhar Koirala and Gagan Thapa in the NC once lobbied the idea while Dahal and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai have strongly advocated the idea in public.
"Also, in the recent days we find some political exercises under way in that direction," said Gyawali.
