Masahiro Horiuchi, representative of Pilot Corp´s international sales division, disclosed this information at a press conference organized to launch its Super GP pen, which costs only Rs 15.[break]
"We are planning to start manufacturing the pens in Nepal in near future as labor cost is low here and import duties won´t be slapped, which will reduce the cost of pens," Horiuchi said. He, however, informed the company would not compromise on quality even if it starts production in Nepal.
His comments come at a time when the government is making every effort to bring in foreign investors and create job opportunities.
Pilot is one of the renowned brands of pens available in the local market for the last three decades. According to rough estimates, this brand of Japanese pen has captured almost 40 percent of the pen market in Nepal, which imports around Rs 176 million worth of pens every year.
Fair Arts International, a Nepal-based company, is the sole authorized dealer of Pilot pens for South Asia.
