A recent central executive committee meeting of the Rajendra Mahato-led party has drawn the conclusion that the movement could not pressure the government and the state authorities to bow to its demands as the other parties in UDMF failed to fulfill their assigned responsibilities.
Sadbhavana has claimed that the party succeeded in leading the border blockade at the Birgunj-Raxaul checkpoint as assigned by the front while finalizing the protest programs. The party, however, alleged that the other parties failed to block the Biratnagar-Jogbani and Bhairahawa-Sunauli checkpoints.
According to a Sadbhavana leader, UDMF had assigned Upendra Yadav-led Federal Socialist Forum Nepal and Mahantha Thakur-led Tarai Madhes Democratic Party to lead the blockade at the Biratnagar-Jogbani and Bhairahawa-Sunauli checkpoints respectively.
Sadbhavana has claimed that it firmly stands by the 11-point demand of the UDMF. The party has also demanded a judicial probe into the use of force by the security forces to suppress the Madhes movement.
The party has stated that unless the terms of reference (ToR) and procedures for the high-level political committee are made clear, the party will not join the mechanism proposed by the government for resolving disputes over province delineations.
The government had decided to form an 11-member high-level political committee on the eve of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's visit to India and named only Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa as a member.
The agitating party has claimed that unless and until the ToR and procedures for the mechanism are finalized, the formation of the committee would be no more than a government move to please India.
Meanwhile, the party has urged all Madhes-based parties, within parliament and outside, to form a broader alliance to take the Madhes movement to a new height.
