Costume designer Jenny Beavan accepted the honor.
"I just want to say one quite serious thing, I've been thinking about this a lot, but actually it could be horribly prophetic, Mad Max, if we're not kinder to each other and if we don't stop polluting our atmosphere, so you know, it could happen," Beavan said.
The film beat out Carol, Sandy Powell; Cinderella, Sandy Powell; The Danish Girl, Paco Delgado; and The Revenant, Jacqueline West.
At last year's awards show, Milena Canonero took home the honor for her work in Wes Anderson's film, The Grand Budapest Hotel.
The awards are being handed out at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Chris Rock is hosting.
