The latest person to die from the disease has been identified as Sunil Sada. The unidentified disease had claimed four people on a single day on Monday: Taluwa Sada, 35, Garwa Sada, 55, Jibasi Sada, 35, and Kaushilya Sada.The deaths and the spread of infection among dozen others have caused panic among the members of Dalit community at Ayodhyapur VDC-6.
District Health Office (DHO) Siraha, sent a team of health workers to the affected village immediately after the deaths were brought to its notice.
The team of health workers had referred eight patients to the district hospital after their condition became critical. Of them, seven returned home by Tuesday afternoon following their recovery. However, the doctors from the district hospital referred Sunil Sada to the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS).
As Sunil's family could not take him to the BPKIHS owing to their weak financial condition, he breathed last at his own village, according to his relatives.
Meanwhile, locals alleged that Sunil died due to the DHO's carelessness.
But Rajbir Yadav, information officer at the District Hospital, Siraha, informed that Sunil's family members had refused to take him to Dharan even though the hospital had agreed to provide free ambulance.
Meanwhile, chief of DHO Dr Daya Shankar Lal Karn informed that the patients' blood samples have been sent to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) in Kathmandu for lab tests.
