Nepal wins second match in a row

KATHMANDU, June 15: Nepali senior cricket team recorded two consecutive victories against Himachal Pradesh as the former defeated Indian side by 61 runs in the 20 over's second practice match at the Dharamsala Cricket Ground, Himachal, India, on Monday.

The result means, Nepal, which is in Dharamsala, India, preparing for the upcoming two major international events, leads the three practice matches series with 2-0. Nepal had registered a five-wicket win over home team at the same venue on Sunday.Nepal, which has been in India for more than two weeks, is scheduled to play the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers to be jointly hosted by Ireland and Scotland from July 9 to 26. Nepal will also play two List A matches of the ICC World Cricket League Championship against Scotland on July 29 and 31.

Gyanendra Malla's half century and Sompal Kami's all-round show were crucial for Nepal's victory against Himachal Pradesh on Monday.

Being asked to bat first, Nepal scored 122/7 in allotted overs after Gyanendra, who remained not out, contributed 52 runs off 47 balls that included only a six of the inning and two fours.

Sompal's 24 runs from 21 balls helped Nepal to put fighting total on the board.

Nepal started its inning in a shaky manner losing both openers Subash Khakurel (5) and Sagar Pun (4), but third number batsman Gyanendra rescued Nepali inning.

Although, Nepal kept losing wickets at regular intervals -- skipper Paras Khadka (1) and Binod Bhandari (1), Sharad Vesawkar (11) and Pradeep Airee for duck -- Gyanendra and Sompal shared an important 38-runs highest partnership for the seventh wicket.

Gyanendra also shared 37 runs stand with Shakti Gauchan, who remained not out on nine runs, for the eighth wicket.

Gurvinder Singh bagged two wickets for Himachal Pradesh, which failed to chase the target of 123 runs.

Host Himachal Pradesh's run chase was disastrous as Nepal restricted them on 61 runs in 14.3 overs after Sompal claimed three wickets.

Sumeet Verma (18) and Vikrant (10) were the batsmen to score in double figures for Himachal Pradesh, which failed to challenge Nepali team throughout the inning.

Jitendra Mukhiya and Shakti Gauchan pocketed two wickets each, while Karan KC took one.

Nepal will play one more practice match against the same team.

Nepal team is in under closed camp training at Dharamsala since June 5 and will leave for Nepal on June 20.

After that Nepal is scheduled to tour England for four practice matches and Netherlands for four Twenty20 Internationals against Netherlands before the Qualifiers and Championship.

Nepal has already announced a 19-member, 15 final and four reserved, squad for the tournaments.
