KATHMANDU, July 19: Nepal has participated in the 2025 World Veterinary Association General Assembly (WVA GA) held in the US.
Dr. Sital Kaji Shrestha represented Nepal at the General Assembly held in Washington, D.C. on July 18. Dr. Shrestha attended the General Assembly on behalf of the Nepal Veterinary Association and also represented the SAARC Regional Veterinary Association, where he currently serves as General Secretary. A former president of the Nepal Veterinary Association, Dr. Shrestha led the organization for seven consecutive years until 2020.

In his address to the Assembly, Dr. Shrestha highlighted the contributions of Nepali veterinarians and called for enhanced international collaboration to strengthen the veterinary workforce in Nepal. He also expressed Nepal’s willingness to host future WVA events. Additionally, he noted that the SAARC Regional Veterinary Association is expected to become a member organization of the WVA in the near future.
During the event, Dr. Shrestha held courtesy meetings with presidents of national veterinary associations from Sri Lanka, South Korea, the Philippines and Japan. The General Assembly brought together participants from over 90 countries. Nepal has been a member of the World Veterinary Association since 1998.
Founded in 1863, the WVA is a global organization representing the veterinary profession. The next General Assembly is scheduled to be held in Tokyo, Japan, in 2026.
