Nepal Veterinary Association hosts Right to Protein Run Half Marathon

In the women’s half-marathon category, Sanotshi Shrestha claimed first place for the third consecutive year, earning a cash prize of Rs 150,000. Pruna Laxmi Neupane and Puspa Bhandari secured the second and the third positions, respectively.

KATHMANDU, Jan 27: The Nepal Veterinary Association distributed a total prize amount of Rs 1.8 million at the fourth season of the Right to Protein Run (RTPR) half-marathon, making it one of Nepal’s largest half-marathon events in terms of participation and prize money.


The event held at Dasharath Rangashala, Kathmandu, attracted over 8,000 participants from diverse backgrounds, including veterinarians, students, fitness enthusiasts, and members of the general public, according to Chairperson of the Right to Protein Run Sital Kaji Shrestha.

In the women’s half-marathon category, Sanotshi Shrestha claimed first place for the third consecutive year, earning a cash prize of Rs 150,000. Pruna Laxmi Neupane and Puspa Bhandari secured the second and the third positions, respectively. 


In the men’s half-marathon category, Rajan Rokaya of the Tribhuvan Army Club clinched first place by completing the race in one hour, six minutes and 10 seconds, earning an equal cash prize of NPR 150,000. Khadak Bahadur Khadka and Julius Murkuli took second and third places, respectively. 


The event was inaugurated by Tankalal Ghising, Member Secretary of the National Sports Council-Nepal. Races were held in various categories including a 10 km open male category, a 5 km female open category and schoolboys’ race, a 3 km schoolgirls’ race, a wheelchair run (male/female), and a fun run for kids. A total of 40 winners across eight categories were awarded cash prizes ranging from Rs 2,500 to Rs 150,000. The total prize amount excluded a 25% sports tax, with the organizer liable to deposit Rs 4,40000 in tax to the respective winners’ tax accounts. 


Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari, NSC Member Secretary Tanklal Ghising, Secretary at MoALD Dr. Rajendra Prasad Mishra and representatives from the US Soybean Export Council presented awards to the winners during the ceremony.
