KATHMANDU, Nov 3: Expressing its serious concern over its ex lawmakers public statement against the party’s decision to go for fresh election, Nepali Congress has warned its members not to make such statements against the party line.

“The party expresses its serious concern over the public statement issued by its unnamed ex Constituent Assembly (CA) members as decision to go for fresh CA and parliamentary elections was taken by the Central Working Committee of the party unanimously,” the statement issued on Saturday reads. A meeting of 78 former CA members of the party on Thursday had criticized the party’s decision to go fresh CA and parliamentary elections by ruling out the option for CA revival to resolve the ongoing political impasse.

“We have decided to urge the party leadership to keep the democratic option of CA revival open,” said a former CA member Shobhakar Parajuli, who is among the former CA members lobbying for reviving the CA.

The NC decided to go fresh elections despite reservation expressed by two senior leaders Sher Bahadur Deuba and Ram Chandra Poudel.

A national gathering of NC district presidents, held in Sindhupalchowk a few months ago, had kept the option of CA revival open amid NC senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel and some district presidents rooting for the CA revival.
