Treasurer of Far Western Players´ Association (FWPA) Sagar Shahi said Khamba Bista is at large while the remaining three have been taken to police custody. However, no further action has been initiated due to political pressure, according to Shahi.
Secretary of the association Bikash Bahadur Singh told Republica that they were seeking the help from media because of immense pressure from ´some´ political groups to get the accused out of jail. Singh declined to name the political groups fearing backlash.
“Those who killed Dhakal were local thugs. They killed him due to some personal disputes,” said Singh.
The press release also warned that the players of Far Western Region would opt for strike if the authorities do not take any action against the wrongdoers.
Meanwhile, Nepal Republican Sports Federation (NRSF)´s general secretary Mahesh Newa, issuing a separate press release, condemned the act and demanded a probe into the incident.
Late Dhakal was the founding member of FWPA and also the central committee member of the Newa state of NRSF.
