MWCSW forms disaster management coordination committee

KATHMANDU, May 24: The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare (MWCSW) has formed a ministry-level Disaster Management Coordination Committee coordinated by the Minister at the Ministry as per the May 7 decision of the Council of Ministers.

The committee has been set up for the purpose of carrying out necessary works regarding rescue, relief and management taking into consideration the extensive damage to life and property caused by the April 25 devastating earthquake and the subsequent powerful aftershocks as per the Cabinet decision, the MWCSW stated.

The Secretary at the Ministry is the Joint-Coordinator of the committee while the members include the Chairman of the Central Child Welfare Board, the Joint Secretary at the Ministry, the Director General of the Department of Women and Children, the Director of the Department of Social Welfare Council, two representatives assigned by the United Nations, four representatives assigned and fixed by the Chairman, the Chairperson of the NGO Federation, the Chairperson of the Association of Democratic NGOs and two members of the Council Nilmani Baral and Rakesh Hamal.

It is stated that the committee will help remove obstacles encountered in the works carried by the domestic and foreign organisations by coordinating with the government, motivate the mobilization of the domestic and foreign organisations and provide guidelines and have them provided. RSS
