More than 48 dead, over thousand hurt during Madhes agitation: Report

KATHMANDU, Dec 4: More than 48 persons, including security personnel, were killed and more than a thousand were injured as of November 25 during the agitation in various districts in the southern plains, a report revealed.

Unveiling the report prepared by three-member team of the Human Rights Organization of Nepal (HURON) during a field visit since November 22-25, Chairperson of the Organization Indra Prasad Aryal said that the report documents the account of deaths and injuries sustained in various eight districts in the Tarai, including Saptari and Parsa.


The United Democratic Madhesi Front, comprising various 13 Madhes-centric political parties, has been protesting over the displeasure with the federal boundaries and representations in parliament and public offices since August 16.

The report was prepared after meeting with the families of the deceased, injured, journalists, human rights activists, security personnel, civic society among others, it was shared.

“A large number of Madhes and Tharu were seen participating in the agitation having grudges over the Prime Minister’s statement and media contents published by Kathmandu-centric media outlets,” shared President Aryal.

On the occasion, Govinda Dhakal, member of the Organization, urged the government, opposition parties, the major political parties to be serious towards providing outlet to the ongoing agitation. RSS
