Although many thought it to be the first monsoon rain of this year, weather experts attributed the drizzle to the ongoing pre-monsoon weather activity.
According to them, the monsoon is likely to kick off next week, and moist clouds will arrive at least two days late than previous year.As per the record of Meteorological Forecasting Division of Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), the monsoon rain last year had hit Nepal on June 10.
"It rained for a while in the evening in the central and western parts of the country. But it was certainly not a monsoon rain," said Meteorologist at DHM, Samir Shrestha.
Trying to explain this current rainfall pattern, Shrestha shared the Thursday's rainfall was due to the impact of low pressure cloud pattern in northern Bihar of India. He further added formation of such low pressure activity and shifting of clouds to Nepal's side is rapidly increasing.
"This type of weather pattern resulting into mild rainfall is pretty common during pre-monsoon season. However, now we should be prepared for the monsoon rain that is just around the corner," said Shrestha.
Monsoon in Nepal is heralded by the heavy clouds is brought in the south-easterly wind emerging from the Bay of Bengal. The moist clouds enter Nepal from the eastern side and spread across the county in over 50 days.
However, international and national weather experts have claimed this year's monsoon rain to be comparatively weak. "The El Nino condition over the Pacific Ocean has withered the impact of monsoon rain this year. In a nutshell, this weather condition changes the wind pattern and ultimately affects the formation and movement of monsoon clouds," said Shrestha.
Monsoon to arrive sooner than usual in Nepal, say meteorologist...
