The major Madhesi parties -- Upendra Yadav-led Madhesi People´s Right Forum-Nepal (MPRF-N), Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar-led MPRF-D, Rajendra Mahato-led Sadbhavana Party (SP), and Mahantha Thakur-led Tarai Madhesh Democratic Party (TMDP) -- have vowed to replace traditional mode of agricultural practice with more scientific approach for large scale agro-based productivity. MPRF-N leader Amresh Narayan Jha has said that agricultural loans should be available easily for all farmers and the government should introduce insurance policy for agricultural sector.
He further said that their party will take initiatives to get agricultural experts deployed in every village of Tarai. Jha further said that their party would strongly push for subsidies in chemical fertilizers and seeds.
“The farmers should be allowed to own the land they cultivate,” added Jha. “Our mission is to bring agriculture revolution.”
SP General Secretary Manish Suman said that their party has proposed in their manifesto to distribute fertilizers and agriculture tools at free of cost for farmers. “We will take initiatives to make fertilizer available to farmers when they need it,” said Suman, adding that they strongly believe that the farmers should get electricity free of cost.
He added that their party will also push for waiver of loans of up to Rs 100,000 for farmers.
TMDP Vice Chairman Brikhesh Chandra Lal said that the agriculture should be modernized. “It is of utmost importance to use scientific skills in agriculture,” said Lal, adding, “We have proposed in our manifesto that a chemical fertilizer factory would be established in Tarai.”
MPRF-D General Secretary Jitendra Narayan Dev has said that their party has come up with an ambitious plan on the development of agricultural sector. “We will make the manifesto public within a few days,” said Dev, adding, “We are not in a position to share any highlights of manifesto before it is made public.”
