KATHMANDU, Feb 4: Worsening load shedding is fueling a surge in fire incidents in the capital, according to the Kathmandu Fire Brigade, which said that it has had to deal with eight fire incidents in the last three days alone.
The brigade, which is popularly called Juddha Barun Yantra, informed that over one hundred fire incidents have been recorded in Kathmandu in the last two and half months, in which two people have died and dozens others were injured. According to the officials at the brigade, properties worth billions of rupees have been damaged in the fires.
Firefighters at Kathmandu Fire Brigade blamed human negligence for the rise in fire incidents. "Human negligence is the major cause of fire incidents," Kishor Kumar Bhattarai, chief of the brigade, said. He informed that the growing load shedding, unsafe storage of highly inflammable items like petroleum products were other reasons behind the growing fire incidents.
The brigade has urged people to switch off bulbs and electrical appliances during load shedding; use only quality electricity appliances and electric wires. The brigade has also asked all to keep fire extinguisher in kitchen compulsorily to minimize the risks and call firefighters immediately if fire breaks out.
There will be no load-shedding now: NEA
