Lightning claims 7 in week in Biratnagar

BIRATNAGAR, July 16: Lightning accompanied with rainfall has claimed three more lives in Morang district last night.

Now, the death toll has reached seven during the week period.



According to the District Police Office, Morang, the lightning killed Naina Devi Das, 30, of Takuwa VDC-4, Rita Devi Urab, 20, of Thalaha VDC-1 and Sanama Paswan, 60, of Dainiya VDC in the district Sunday night.[break]



The lightning also destroyed telephones, televisions, refrigerators and other electronic devices.



Naina Devi and Rita Devi died after the lightning struck them while they were working in the paddy field and Paswan died at his house.



The incessant rainfall that occurred since Sunday has inundated Biratnagar town and surrounding rural areas.



The District Agricultural Office, Morang, said the rainfall has also destroyed vegetables.
