"Though we have begun cancer related treatment, things are not smooth as we don't have experts for radiation service," said Dr Saugat Gautam of the hospital. "We are unable to carry out complex surgeries. Over 70 percent of patients are deprived of treatment services due to the lack of radiation services," he added.
Gautam informed that the hospital has necessary infrastructure for providing radiation services and complex surgeries if it gets the needed manpower to operate the equipments. "What we don't have are doctors for providing these treatments. Or else, the hospital has the necessary infrastructure to provide cancer treatment services," he stated. However, he added that the hospital needs to develop few more infrastructures if it decides to establish itself as a center for cancer treatment.
Dr Roshan Pokhrel, medical superintendent of the hospital said that despite the lacking the hospital has been providing essential cancer treatment services. "The service provided by our hospital now is not less important for cancer patients. Chemotherapy is very important. Similarly, getting cancer diagnosed is great service," he said adding that those needing other services are visit hospitals in Bharatpur and Chitwan
