Criticizing the ruling party UCPN (Maoist) for its ´lack of commitment´ towards resolving the current political imbroglio, Khanal said that it is largely due to Maoists´ lax attitude that the prospect of consensus is growing slim.
Speaking to media persons at a program organized by the Dang chapter of Press Chautari here in the district, UML Chairman Khanal further accused the Maoist party of becoming power hungry.
"We the opposition parties have been working hard for consensus to end the current political deadlock. But the UCPN (Maoist) is not serious towards the issue and is not even willing to hold discussions, thus pushing the country towards uncertainty," he added.
Khanal also said the Maoist party has to take the responsibility of prolonging the current situation of uncertainty in the country.
"Maoists do not want to strike consensus fearing that the act would dislodge them from power," the UML chief said and threatened to unseat Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai from his post through agitation.
Khanal along with party Secretaries Shankar Pokharel and Yuvaraj Gyawali has arrived in Ghorahi, Dang to participate in a party program.
