KATHMANDU, Feb 7: The Embassy of Japan in Nepal celebrated Japan’s National Day on Friday with a reception hosted by newly appointed Ambassador Maeda Toru at his official residence in Tahachal. The event marked the 65th birthday of the Emperor of Japan, said the embassy in a press release.
Around 350 guests attended the reception, including Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav as the chief guest, along with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh, Minister for Youth and Sports Teju Lal Chaudhary, National Assembly Vice Chairman Bimala Ghimire, and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Indira Rana. Former prime ministers, ministers, federal parliament members, ambassadors, and representatives from international organizations were also present, the press release further stated.

In his address, Ambassador Maeda highlighted the longstanding ties between Japan and Nepal, tracing back to historical exchanges in the 19th century. He recalled key moments in bilateral relations, including the Emperor’s visit to Nepal in 1987 and Japan’s continued development cooperation for over half a century. Looking ahead, he expressed enthusiasm for the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Japan and Nepal in 2026, viewing it as an opportunity to strengthen bilateral friendship, the press statement read.
