Two accused of assaulting senior advocate Tripathi released on bail, one sent to custody

On January 15, Senior advocate Tripathi was assaulted inside the premises of Kathmandu District Court by cadres of the RSP. Tripathi had presented arguments representing the victims of the Swarnalaxmi cooperative fraud case.

KATHMANDU, Feb 7: The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release on bail of three people arrested on charges of assaulting senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi. While two of the accused were released after they posted the bail, one was sent to prison after he failed to post the bail amount.


A bench of Kathmandu District Court Judge Gayatri Prasad Regmi ordered the release of all three arrested people on bail of Rs 100,000 each.

Following the court order, Lalit Kumar KC, 48, of Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-1 in Dolakha, and Sita Devi Rai alias Shital Rai, 55, of Buddha Shanti Rural Municipality-4, Jhapa, have been released on bail.


According to the Police Circle, Singha Durbar, another defendant, Maha Nanda Jaisi, 32, of Adanchuli Rural Municipality-4, Humla, was sent to prison after he failed to post the bail amount.


Defendant Jaisi, who failed to pay bail, is the vice chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Jumla. Jaisi claimed that he had not attacked senior advocate Tripathi.
