KATHMANDU, Feb 7:  Lawmakers in the Federal Parliament have protested against alleged police brutality ordered by Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak against Satyendra Kumar Ram (Chamar) and Neha Rauniyar of Sarlahi, who had an inter-caste love marriage.

Speaking during the zero and special hours of the House of Representatives on Friday, Members of Parliament (MPS) condemned the government’s role in the case, calling it a violation of the constitutionally-guaranteed human rights. They criticized the use of state machinery to suppress inter-caste marriages instead of promoting social equality.

MP Prakash Jwala criticized the Home Minister’s interference, noting that the Supreme Court had already legalized Satyendra and Neha’s marriage.
