TAPLEJUNG, Feb 7: The Mukkumlung Protection Committee which has been protesting against the construction of cable car in the Pathibhara area has reached a six-point agreement with the team led by the Under Secretary of the Government of Nepal on the evening of February 4 in the dispute the construction of the cable car. Through the agreement, the protection committee has demanded the formation of a ministerial-level negotiation team.
In a statement issued on Friday, the protesting groups concluded that the issue could not be resolved through a staff-level negotiation team. The protesting groups have demanded the formation of a ministerial-level negotiation team to find a lasting and permanent solution to serious issues, such as the protection of Mukkumlung and the cancellation of the cable car project.

Mukkumlung, in Taplejung district, is considered as a sacred site by Yakhtung ("Limbu") indigenous groups as a part of their ancestral lands of Yakthung ("Limbu").
According to the agreement reached on the night of February 4, the protection committee expects discussions on the disagreements regarding the Pathibhara Cable Car construction, among other issues, to take place in the meeting scheduled for February 9.
According to the statement, the protestors will meet with the ministerial-level negotiation team on February 9.
The protesting groups also claimed that despite a verbal agreement to halt work at the cable car station for 10 days, the agreement has not been honestly implemented.
