Hira, Bhawana win squash title

KATHMANDU, Dec 27: Hira Bahadur Thapa and Bhawana Sunuwar claimed men and women singles titles, respectively, in the Third Civil Bank Open Squash Championship that concluded at Satdobato, Lalitpur on Saturday. Hira Bahadur beat Prabin Bir Singh Kansakar 11-9, 11-4, 8-11, 11-9 in men's final, while Bhawana surpassed Krishna Thapa 11-8, 13-11, 11-5 in women's final.

Similarly, Amir Blon beat Deepak Thapa 8-11, 8-11, 15-13, 14-12, 11-8 to claim U-17 singles, while Kishor Maharjan thrashed Lal Bahadur Gurung 9-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 to claim veteran (50-year and above) title. 

Meanwhile, Nepal Squash Rackets Association picked up eight men and eight women players for the 12th South Asian Games from preliminary selection. The players finishing quarterfinalists in men and women singles got selected for the preliminary round.

Hari Bahadur Thapa, Prabin Bir Singh Kansakar, Amrit Thapa Magar, Arhant Keshar Singh, Suroj Shrestha, Sujan Jurwachan, Nain Magar and Dilip Adhikari are men players, while Bhawana Sunuwar, Krishna Thapa, Sapana Blon, Muskan Raut, Rupa Thapa, Rama Thapa Magar and Sakshi Sunuwar are women players to be in the preliminary squad. Finally, four men and four women players will be selected for the SAG after round robin tournament.
