High Court bars suspension of KMC Police Chief Pandey

On Wednesday, a joint bench of Judges Rishi Raj Bhandari and Dilli Ratna Shrestha issued the order against the implementation of Pandey’s suspension.

KATHMANDU, June 18: The Patan High Court has issued an order not to implement the decision to suspend Rajunath Pandey, Chief of the Municipal Police of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).


On Wednesday, a joint bench of Judges Rishi Raj Bhandari and Dilli Ratna Shrestha issued the order against the implementation of Pandey’s suspension.


“An interim order has been issued in the name of the respondents pursuant to Rule 42 (1) of the High Court Rules, directing not to implement the suspension letter dated June 3, 2025 and allowing the petitioner to continue to function in his post,” the order states.

Pandey filed a writ petition at Patan High Court on June 8, against his suspension. The Patan High Court called both parties for a discussion on Wednesday regarding the petition he filed.


On June 10, during the preliminary hearing, both parties were summoned to discuss whether to issue an interim order or not.


Pandey named the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain, Acting Chief of Metropolitan Police Bishnu Joshi, and the Municipal Executive Office of Kathmandu Metropolitan City as respondents in his petition.


The Administrative Officer of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Guragain, made the decision to suspend him on June 3. He was suspended for six months.


On April 4, Pandey allegedly caused a disturbance when the Administrative Officer Guragain went to the office, and on May 20, he was asked for clarification regarding the incident.
