Judicial Council picks judges for Supreme Court, High Court

The Judicial Council picked High Court Chief Judges Kumar Chudal and Nahakul Subedi for the SC justices. Chudal is currently serving as Chief Judge of High Court in Patan and Subedi as Chief Judge of High Court in Surkhet.

KATHMANDU, March 12:  The Judicial Council (JC) on Friday picked two justices for the Supreme Court and 18 judges for different High Courts.


A meeting of the JC headed by Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana picked the judges for the top court and high courts. The Supreme Court justices will assume office once after they testify before the parliamentary hearing committee, while judges of the High Court will assume office immediately after they are administered the oath of office and secrecy.

The JC picked High Court Chief Judges Kumar Chudal and Nahakul Subedi for the SC justices. Chudal is currently serving as Chief Judge of High Court in Patan and Subedi as Chief Judge of High Court in Surkhet.


The JC picked Deputy Attorney General Narayan Prasad Paudel and Secretary at the Ministry of Law and Justice Rishi Rajbhandari as High Court judges.


District Court Judges Arjun Prasad Koirala, Amrit Bahadur Basnet, Medini Prasad Paudel are picked as High Court judges. Similarly, the Registrar of Patan High Court Rameshwor Regmi and Joint Registrar of Supreme Court are also picked as High Court judges.


Lawyers Phurpa Tamang, Shreedhara Pudasaini, Jagadish Ghimire, Punam Singh Chand, Sagar Bista, Ganesh Thakur and Nirmala Shakya are also among those picked as High Court judges.
