Speaking on Nagarik Frontline Wednesday, Mahato expressed doubts over Balen’s ability to address Madhesh’s key issues, citing his lack of a rights and identity-focused agenda. “Balen Shah is a son of the Madheshi community, but he is not a Madheshi-centric leader,” he said, warning that relying solely on ethnicity without a clear political plan could leave marginalized groups disappointed.

Mahato also noted that past political leaders used Madheshi faces but failed to deliver rights, and he believes Balen reflects a similar approach.
