Dalit Saajha Munch – a common platform of people based organizations loyal to various political parties in Gulmi – and Matrika Yadav-led CPN (Maoist) called the bandh in protest of the incident. [break]
Due to bandh, long and short route vehicles to and from the district have been brought to a grinding halt while market area and shops have also been completely closed down.
The bandh supporters have enforced bandh in district headquarters and major market area since this morning.
The organizations have announced bandh saying occurrence of such incident is the offense of state law and also a serious crime against humanity at a time when it is legally defined to take action against those involved in the social crime of caste-based discrimination.
Among the demands put forward by Dalit organizations are declaring Manbir Sunar a martyr with due respect, compensation to family and action against the guilty and guarantee education and employment to the family members of the deceased, said Coordinator of Mukti Morcha Gulmi, Krishna Bahadur BK Sandesh.
He further informed the bandh has been enforced to draw the government´s attention to put impunity to an end.
