A meeting of the council of ministers on Friday took a decision reiterating the government's statement issued through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday."The Constitution of Nepal, which is in effect, adopts universal democratic principles and values and was promulgated by a sovereign Constituent Assembly through a democratic process. We inform one and all that there is no constitutional problem at present in Nepal," reads a statement on the cabinet decision issued by Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai.
He said that the EU-India joint statement which has come with this timing was "entirely inappropriate".
The cabinet meeting reiterated that the government and people of Nepal were competent enough to resolve any type of problems arising in the country.
Meanwhile, Nepal's embassy in Brussels forwarded the Nepal government's statement to EU headquarters in Brussels on Friday.
Deputy chief of mission at the Nepal embassy, Ghanashyam Bhandari, said that they sent the statement to the EU headquarters to inform it about the decision of the Nepal government.
Earlier on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in its statement, said the joint statement not only hurt the sentiments of the people of Nepal but also defies the fundamental principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of a country, and is in breach of the UN Charter and the norms of international law.
"The Government of Nepal calls on all to fully respect the sovereign and democratic rights of the people of Nepal and refrain from making uncalled for statements," reads the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
