KATHMANDU, May 14: Following complaints that paracetamol and oral rehydration salts (ORS) produced by Nepal Aushadhi Limited were not being sold, the Department of Health Services initiated procurement processes on the same day after discussions with Minister of Health and Population, Pradip Paudel.
The Management Division under the department has formally begun correspondence with the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division to procure the required paracetamol and ORS for its disease control programs.
Nepal Aushadhi Limited produces three more medicines
Division Chief Dr Pawan Jung Rayamajhi said that the process was initiated immediately following discussions with Minister Poudel, who committed to resolving the issue. “The procurement agreement process will proceed as per regulations,” said Dr Rayamajhi.
On Tuesday, a meeting was held at the ministry under the active initiative of Minister Poudel, involving officials from the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, and Nepal Aushadhi Limited. Minister Poudel stated that the ministry is positive about procuring essential medicines according to government standards and would advance the process accordingly.
He also assured that essential medicines identified by the government as necessary for health institutions will be procured in a way that ensures their supply to all three levels of government. During the discussion, an agreement was reached to form a problem-solving committee led by the Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, with representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, and officials from Nepal Aushadhi Limited.
