The 12 year old Gaurika, who came to limelight breaking seven national records in her debut tournament in the 12th Galaxy Cup Inter-school Age Group Swimming Championship, last year, created new national record in the open women's 100m breaststroke and open women's 100m freestyle on the first day of the competition.
Clocking one minute and 26.72 seconds, Gaurika surpassed Bibidha Rimal's previous breaststroke record of one minute and 27.54 seconds, created during Fourth Pramod Swimming Championship in 2007.For her 100m freestyle national record, Gaurika clocked one minute and 3.91 seconds and broke Sofia Gadegaard's record of one minute and 5.78 seconds, created during the 19th National Games in 2014.
Gaurika was also close at bettering her open women's 200m breaststroke record; nevertheless, she had to be content with her former best timing of two minutes and 37.87 seconds.
In open women's 100m breaststroke, Gaurika left behind Sonira Bista (one minute and 32.23 seconds) and Nihirika Tuladhar (one minute and 34.85 seconds), second and third respectively.
In open women's 100m freestyle, Gaurika triumphed over Shreetika Singh (one minutes and 17.13 seconds) and Rashika Paudyal (one minute and 22.31 seconds).
Niharika Tuladhar of Lincoln School also set a new national in the 15-17 year girl's 50 m breaststroke finals with the timing of 39.78 seconds. Earlier Bibidha Rimal held the record with 40.07 second under her belt set in Islamabad, Pakistan, on 2007.
Devesh Maharjan won gold in the open men's 1500m with the timing of 23 minutes and 07.59 seconds as Rudra Tatwal (23 minutes and 29.00 second) and Anubhav Subba (24 minutes and 10.57 seconds) finished second and third.
Rashika Paudyal (six minutes and 33.19 seconds), Yam Kumari Ghale (seven minutes and 25.19 seconds) and Keshari Thapamagar (nine minutes and 13.11 seconds) took the top three positions in the open women's 400m freestyle.
Avi Ranjan Shahi (two minutes and 44.16 seconds), Devesh Manandhar (two minutes and 46.93 seconds) and Nitesh Manandhar (two minutes 47.81 seconds) won top three honors in open men's 200m freestyle.
In other events, Kiran Karki, Tika Thapa and Manish Chitrakar finished at top three and reached final in the open men's 50m breaststroke.
Glen Kelly, Manish and Devesh Maharjan took top three positions and reached finals in the open men's 50m freestyle.
