Four drown in rice field

DHANGADI, July 4: Four children, two of them siblings, died and two others were injured after drowning in muddy water in a field. The accident occurred at 10:30am Wednesday when the children were playing in the field nearby their house.



The siblings, Ram Bhatt, 9, and Laxman, 7, died on the spot. Similarly, 8-year-old Govinda Damai and 6-year-old girl Sharmali BK also succumbed later. [break]Deepa Kumari BK, 6, and Harish Bhatt, 5, who sustained injuries have been receiving treatment at Seti Zonal Hospital.



According to information, the six children were playing drowning one by one when the accident occurred. “They were having fun. But later farmers, who were planting paddy nearby, noticed that they were in trouble,” said a local Birendra Singh. “By the time we reached the spot two had already died. Only two could be saved,” he added.

While Ram, Laxman and Govinda died on the spot, Sharmila breathed her last on the way to Dhangadi for treatment.



“Hearing about the accident I rushed to the field only to discover that that my boys were dead,” the aggrieved father of the siblings Pawan Bhatt said.



Deepa, who survived the accident, said she could not remember what exactly happened as everything happened suddenly.



District police office, Kailali stated that the dead bodies were handed over to respective families after post mortem.
