“The government has given the responsibility to organize the international trade fair to FNCCI,” informed Surendra Thapa, Under Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies. According to FNCCI, NITF-2012 will bring a large number of enterprises and products from different countries under one roof.
“The main objective of the fair is to promote Nepal´s international trade and enhance the growth of Nepali exportable products, especially those identified in Nepal Trade Integration Strategy (NTIS) 2010. Besides, the fair will also give exposure to Nepali small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and create new markets for them,” said Kalyan Krishna Tamrakar, chairman of Branding and Income Generating Committee at FNCCI.
The fair with 320 stalls will have separate pavilions for national and international products. According to the organizers, the fair will have exhibitors from Thailand, Vietnam, and Myanmar apart from the SAARC countries. International buyers from Europe and America are also expected.
The national pavilion at the fair will showcase various products like handicraft, tourism, agro, hydropower, IT and BPO, building and construction, education, and pharmaceuticals, among others. International pavilion will have leather goods, new technology equipment, household goods, gift items, furniture, fashion wear, two-wheelers and four-wheelers, among others.
Tamrakar informed 1,000 B2B (business-to-business) international visitors, 1,500 B2B local visitors and 200,000 non-business visitors are expected. As per the FNCCI estimates, total expenses will be in region of Rs 10.1 million.
Speaking at the press conference, Suraj Vaidya, president of FNCCI, said it is necessary to increase the Nepali production and promote it at the international level.
"Currently, we are exporting huge amount of raw materials but we need to hold back the raw materials, produce refined products and export them to other countries. If, this can be done, it will help create huge employment opportunities in the country," said Vaidya.
