According to a statement issued on Thursday, Vaidya talked about the OVOP project and sought support from the UNDP to promote it in a meeting with Terence D Jones, the UNDP resident representative here, on Thursday. [break]
OVOP is a program designed to enhance the capacity of different districts by focusing on a single product that has a comparative edge there.
"We want to take the OVOP project forward in a public-private partnership (PPP) model," the statement quotes Vaidya saying. "For that purpose, we need support from the UNDP." Vaidya also explained the work that FNCCI has been doing in a bid to push the country´s economy forward.
In response to Vaidya, Jones said that UNDP was always ready to support the private sector of the country.
"Private sector organizations play significant roles in the development of a country, mainly in under-developed countries," Jones said, according to the FNCCI statement. It added that Jones suggested that FNCCI focus on the value-chain of the products.
"The project should be focused on increasing the means of income generation of the local people in different districts," Jones said, as per the statement.
