Referring to the rise in exports, sharp turnaround in balance of payment from deficit to surplus, and rise in foreign currency reserve to Rs 344 billion, Pun said the national economy has strengthened over the last six months. [break]
“Good agricultural output and the impact it had on consumption, among others, has buoyed optimism. We will achieve the growth target of 5 percent,” said Pun at an interaction program here. He urged the private sector to invest more and actively participate in wealth creation.
At one point, he also stressed on continuation of the government, saying that stability of the government alone can help attain economic development.
Despite huge industrial potential, FM Pun admitted the state has continued to ignore the development of Far-Western region of the country. He even suggested the local stakeholders to get organized and push for concrete programs that can help the region draw more investment, get more processing and manufacturing industries and create jobs.
As for this government, he said the government is conducting this year a survey for laying railway lines between Kanchanpur and Simara to enhance region´s connectivity.
“We are also planning to develop the Dhangadi airport into a regional-level international airport,” said Pun. However, in order to push the plan up in the priority list, he suggested local stakeholders to start lobbying.
Addressing the program, Minister for Commerce and Supplies Lekh Raj Bhatta said the government is preparing to develop a dry port (inland container depot) at Dodhara-Chandani of Kanchanpur district.
