First dengue case reported in East Nepal

KAKARVITTA (Jhapa). Oct. 31: A dengue virus has been detected at Mechinagar-10 in Jhapa district.



The Nawajiwan Hospital and Rural Health Center at Bagdugra, India confirmed the dengue virus on 28-year-old Bishal Gautam. He was a manager at the Kakarvitta-based hotel and he had been suffering from fever since October 20. [break]Earlier, he had visited the local medical hall for treatment where his problem could not be diagnosed and then he went to India.



According to Jeevan Prasad Chaulagai of the District Public Health Office, the department concerned in the capital has been already informed about the detection of the dengue patient in the district.



The virus of dengue is transmitted to humans by a mosquito of Aedes ageypti type.



This is the first case of detection of dengue virus on human in the eastern Nepal. Last year, dengue patients were found in Chitwan, Nawalparasi and Banke districts.
