Factory owner Yam Prashad Kandel said that machines, raw materials, clothes and around Rs 500,000 in cash were gutted. He said he had set up the factory at the cost of Rs 5.4 million.The owner and his family who had been living on the factory premises said they had a lucky escape. "The fire gutted everything, but we are lucky to be alive," he said.
Although the Nepal Army personnel, Nepal Police and the locals worked throughout the night to douse the fire, they were able to bring it under control only in the morning.
"Fire brigades from Baglung were called in to fight the fire. However, they could not be used on time due to technical difficulties, so the fire could be controlled very late," informed police inspector Shree Krihna Poudel of the District Police Office. The cause of the fire is not known.
